NEW ORLEANS
Welcome to New Orleans, home of Mardi Gras, the boozy French Quarter, the birthplace of jazz, raucous Bourbon Street, stately plantation homes, wrought-iron balconies, flickering gas lamps, Tennessee Williams, world-class restaurants, remarkable antique stores and, at the center of it all, Harrahs New Orleans, the countrys most unique
casino.
Harrahs New Orleans is 115,000 square feet of gorgeous, gilded casino, with over 2,000 slots and 100 table games. A more beautiful, opulent casino would be tough to find, even among the palaces of Las Vegas.
Nor is it hurt by the lack of hotel rooms: There are 17,000 rooms literally surrounding the casino, and Harrahs has cut deals with most of them to make room for its players. During the past year, the poker room was removed and replaced with a much-needed amenity: the Besh Steakhouse. With its distinctive Blue Dog artwork by Cajun painter George Rodrigue and sleek, contemporary vibe, the Besh Steakhouse offers patrons a Vegasstyle bar and open, brushed-silver kitchen.
And more is on the way. The 100,000-square-foot second floor of Harrahs will soon be filled with lounges, cabarets, event areas and probably a few more restaurants. Even more intriguing are plans to create a complete entertainment complex on Fulton Street, nestled against Harrahs massive parking buildings, that could potentially include a hotel and even residential areas.
As for the surrounding area, two words: New Orleans.
Located at the foot of Canal Street, the casino is just a stones throw from the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, the Convention Center complex, the Riverwalk and Canal Place shop.
GOOD TIMES, BIG EASY
Shopping malls, the stunning Aquarium of the Americas, the Superdome, the gentrified Warehouse Arts District and an assortment of hotels ranging from the trendy Wand the monolithic Hilton to the internationally acclaimed Windsor Court-not to mention some of the oldest and finest restaurants in the country.
One thing that this Harrahs will always have on Vegas . New Orleans itself, and the international appeal of the Big Easy is the casinos secret weapon. Yes, there is a !IIlaltering of casino riverboats in the area, but theyre primarily local affairs with little fanfare outside their mmediate locales. Its Harrahs that completely dominates the region-so much so, that our survey of win1m simply lists Harrahs in all the categories in which qualifies.
